PURRformance Review: Trying Out The FurryTail Automatic Cat Litter Box

I have tested quite a few products from FurryTail and, so far, I loved them all. They offer good, solid products. When they suggested sending me their new automatic litter box, I was very excited and I must say, they really delivered!

When you get it out of the box, it is super easy and self-explanatory how to put this together. Right off the bat, it feels pretty solid and sturdy.The litter box itself looks small and fits in tight spaces, but the construction is very well thought through.

So even though it doesn’t take up a lot of space in your home, the inside of the box is very spacious so it is suitable for big cats as well. They can turn around without feeling cramped. FurryTail recommends this litter box for cats from 3 to 18 pounds, which means your little 4-month-old teenage kitty can use it and so can your heavy-set senior cat.

Speaking of senior cats: I love the low entrance of this litter box because it makes it easy to enter and exit, especially for senior cats, cats with short legs, or cats with limited mobility. That, for me, is a REALLY big plus.

The waste bin is on the side and you can use any kind of garbage bag. You don’t need to buy a specific bag for it. You can use whatever bag you use at home anyways. A really cool feature is the physical odor barrier – the bin seals through gravity when it is in stand-by mode so there are no smells coming out of the box and there is no need to mask odors with air fresheners.

You can use any kind of litter so there are no restrictions. It doesn’t matter if the litter particles are coarse or FINE, long or SHORT. I personally like to use clumping litter but if you prefer eco-friendly Tofu, pine or mineral litter, or mixed litter you can go ahead and use that as well. Just pour it right into the litter box.

The box has an automatic weight cleaning sensor that gets triggered when a cat enters and starts the clean cycle automatically one minute after the cat leaves. And there is also a 120-degree-angle sensor, which can detect a cat up to 1 1/2 meters away. So should a cat come close to the litter box while it is in cleaning mode it will automatically pause so that there is no risk of any injuries.

Now that I’ve had the FurryTail litter box for a while I can tell you that it is a breeze to clean – there’s not much to it. First, you open the box, take out the trash bag and put in a new one. Before you do that I recommend unplugging it first or it might start turning while you are cleaning it – and you you don’t want that.

I noticed that the waste bin LOOKS small, but it actually isn’t. Look at the amount of litter it collected here! So, it actually has a pretty large capacity. If you just have one cat then you might get away with exchanging the trash bag only every 7 to 10 days. If you want to completely clean the whole box it’s easy – the filter and body of the litter box can be rinsed with water. When you close the lid, make sure it is really closed and the edges are smooth; otherwise, it will stop turning.

To sum this up, the quality of the box is great – the material they use is very smooth, and there are no sharp edges anywhere that could hurt your cat. All of our five cats love it!

The box is easy to use. Just plug it in! No frills here - just a solid and reliable machine that works great – and is very quiet. I love the simplicity of it. It doesn’t need an app, and it doesn’t have any push notifications that could be annoying at times. FurryTail mentions that you can purchase replacement parts and related accessories on their website. I haven’t seen that yet but that’s probably because this litter box is completely new on the market.
